The project „White-Reds GET READY” – Piłsudski’s Chestnut

12 November 2013

On 11th November, at the end of the project „White-Reds GET READY” we organised The Independence Run in Kościernica, Szczeglino and Węgorzewo.

The participants of the Run, although tired and wet, were proud to finish it while carrying a white-blue flag. These were given half-way through The Run. The winners of I and II category were as follows:

  • in Kościernica: Michał Kramek and Dominik Wawrzeńczyk
  • in Szczeglino: Paweł Pietras and Wojciech Fąfara
  • in Węgorzewo: Laura Puzio and Kamil Korman

There were prizes waiting for the winners. The list of the original participants was reinforced by additional unexpected persons, such as the former Mayor, Mr  Ryszard Wątroba, who took part in The Run in Szczeglino.
After The Run there was a music-movement workshop in which a squad of servicemen – the pupils of Primary School in Szczeglino – appeared in gray uniforms and peaked hats. During the performance accompanied by the tunes of “Warszawianka”, the Marshal of Poland, Józef Piłsudski delivered a proclamation while riding a horse:

The hour is upon us. Poland is no longer a slave and we want to seal our fate, we want to build our future by facing what is to come through our strength of arms […].

Denizens of the area were truly impressed not only with the performance of the pupils in their uniforms but also a very professional appearance of Mr Edward Chwastek from Jacinek who acted as the Marshal of Poland. We all had the impression as if it was the Marshal from Kossak’s painting making a speech.

The most adored was the beautiful horse which had taken part in many races. No wonder that this ever-alive symbol was sung about in many songs and poems.
